Interoperability Montana (IM) Project
Welcome to the Interoperability Montana (IM) Project page and Consortia Site. On this page you will find links to the state's nine consortia as well as a link to the Interoperability Montana Project Directors page. This information constitutes the framework for the Statewide Interoperability Process, which is directed by the Statewide Interoperability Executive Council (SIEC) and implemented by the IM Project Directors (IMPD). With the support of the SIEC, Federal, tribal, state and local governments are working together to:
- Assess voice communication needs.
- Define an appropriate radio system based on user-defined requirements, national standards and current available technology.
- Implement the system in a phased approach, sharing basic infrastructure and costs among federal, state, tribal, and local governments.
Two Concept Demonstration Projects currently being implemented are the Southwest Interoperability (SWIP) and Northern Tier Interoperability (NTIP) projects. They are demonstrating backbone technology across large geographic regions and are deploying multi-mode technology to users. Based on demonstration project results, Consortia Project Directors and each of their respective Consortium have developed a statewide implementation plan using a phased approach. Additional phases are being prioritized based on funding availability and Federal narrowband mandates.
