Interoperability Montana (IM) Project
South Central Montana Interoperability Consortium (SCMIC)
Gallatin, Madison, Meagher, Sweet Grass and Park counties formed a consortium to jointly investigate the problem of interoperable emergency communications as it applies to these counties and the entities with which they have need to communicate, and seek to design and implement a plan to alleviate the need and shortfalls identified by this investigation. The South Central Montana Interoperability Consortium (SCMIC) entered into a memorandum of understanding with Montana Dept of Military affairs, acting as the State Administrative Agency, to address problems which must be jointly overcome to arrive at a reliable and effective communications system capable of providing interoperable wireless voice and data exchange as well as alerting for the entire spectrum of emergency management.
The SCMIC seeks to develop an interoperable multimode radio communications system based on federal and state communication standards in which federal, state and local public safety and emergency management representatives can operate autonomously and transition seamlessly while communicating effectively in emergency mission roles as well as in other appropriate command and control roles. Compatibility with similar projects planned and currently on-going throughout the state will be a paramount consideration in all phases of the project.
