Tri-County Interoperability Consortium (TIC)
Broadwater, Jefferson and Powell Counties along with the State of Montana Department of Corrections formed the Tri-County Consortium in 2005. The group used a collaborative process to address upgrading existing radio systems to P-25 trunking. This effort has resulted in major infrastructure improvements, including repeaters, microwave systems, towers and buildings.
The Southwest Interoperability Project (SWIP) (see link below) that Lewis and Clark County completed covers a large portion of the Tri-County area. It uses Project 25 standard trunked and conventional technology. The TIC recognized that P25 alone does not insure interoperability and has focused on making sure that first responders incorporate key elements of the Mutual Aid and Common Frequencies SOPs. TIC continues to work with neighboring consortia to identify opportunities to enhance mutual aid interoperability.
